In medieval times, it was believed that the earth was made up of four elements -earth, air, fire, and water. Deceptively simple, our Oxidized Tiny Center Star is an ancient symbol of triumph of spirit over matter. Representing the 4 basic elements of earth, water, fire, and air, plus the top point represent the 5th element, know in Latin as "quinta essential" that binds the four elements together. Today we refer to this fifth element as Quintessence.
